Bringing the Opportunities Closer to Our Community

In spring 2016, after a rigorous and competitive application, three members of EmpowerWomen.org community were selected to receive a scholarship for the “Online Moderated Care Economy Course” delivered by the UN Women Training Center.
Sabin Muzaffar was one of those selected and here are her impressions after taking the course:
“Learning never stops, it is one core value that I truly believe in. I am always on the lookout for venues and opportunities that help me grow, make me a better person and most importantly enable me to have a better understanding and vision of how I can empower others. So when I saw this amazing opportunity of learning something unique: UN women Training Course on Care Economy, I jumped at the opportunity.
There are many highly relevant topics that are always up for debates but care - especially in our part of the world (Eastern society) - is a subject which is rarely in the limelight. It is a topic that is critical to sustainable economic development of societies, but widely ignored and neglected. I not only signed up for the course, but also applied for a scholarship. Luckily I got both! It is a very enlightening subject as it made me explore not only the different cultures of care and how societal norms and traditions negatively impede human development by not approaching care holistically. The program was educational as it provided me in-depth insight into how care chains are built and how a negative domino effect is created either by the lack of inclusive policies on the cooperate as well as state levels in addition to numerous other very pertinent points raised that impact even the economy.
My view about economic development has actually broadened thanks to this course and has impacted others through my writings that could be found on Ananke and International Women's Initiative, in addition to long sessions on Twitter with the youth as well as other advocacy platforms. More recently, my work on cultures of care has been submitted to Pakistan's prestigious university LUMS' Social Enterprise and Development Center that had called for papers on gender.”
