Context
In January 2018, UN Women and ILO received a generous grant from the European Union (EU) to further advance the WEE agenda in the world of work through the EU-funded programme “WE EMPOWER: Promoting economic empowerment of women at work through responsible business conduct in G7 countries” (2018-2020).
Partnership building and knowledge exchange are key drivers of this programme. As such, UN Women, ILO and their partners will engage a wide range of stakeholders in dialogues and exchanges on women’s economic empowerment (WEE). The programme will encourage companies to commit to and implement a gender-responsive action agenda with particular emphasis on accountability and transparency through enhanced measuring and publicly reporting on progress to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Community of Practice (CoP) actions
CoPs bring together experts and practitioners working on a common thematic area to develop common agendas, learn, collaborate, understand needs, build knowledge, and deliver results.
Working closely with the project team at UN Women and ILO, CoP members will be invited to:
- Provide substantive and technical expertise to WE EMPOWER and/or jointly designed/branded knowledge products, campaigns and capacity-building tools.
- Participate as a panelists and/or participant during WE EMPOWER and/or jointly organized online and offline events, including webinars.
- Identify joint action platforms to drive attention to the work of the COP and its members.
- Other actions (to be discussed during the 24 January call).
Meetings
The group is meeting quarterly by teleconference/video conference to share updates on activities. Ad hoc in-person meetings will be organized as appropriate. The WE EMPOWER Team will coordinate, develop the agenda, and serve as chair and rapporteur. CoP meetings will be documented, and minutes kept on record.
