Women at the ForeFront oF the Clean energy Future
The aim of this paper, and the consultation process and workshop, is to explore the gaps in action and knowledge at the intersection of gender and large-scale renewable energy and to identify initial strategies for closing those gaps. Below are suggested steps organized under the themes of the paper drawn from the energy value chain—Enabling Policy; Private Sector Investment; Generation, Transmission, and Distribution; End Users; and Women’s Advancement in Employment, Leadership, and Entrepreneurship. Given the lack of guidance that exists at most levels of the energy value chain, the emphasis is on initial steps and knowledge and establish a launching point for momentum on this agenda. The recommendations draw from the author’s research, the consultation process, and the workshop, and are relevant to both USAID’s activities and those of other stakeholders.
