I am economically independent
Mongolia

In Mongolia some people say about gender that there is gender inequality between women and men. In my opinion in this country gender equality is quite good in comparison to South Asian countries. I have visited South Asia and therefore I know what gender inequality is. In Mongolia it is maybe the opposite! In Mongolia the woman has an economic right, more than their husband and more than men. In most Mongolian families the woman, or the wife, knows the financial problems in the family. In my family it is the same. In my family I am economically independent from my husband.

Dear Batchuluun,
Thank you very much for sharing your story. I am very happy to hear your story. Yes, we do enjoy many privileges as Mongolian women that women in many countries around the world do not have. However, this does not mean that Mongolia does not have any gender inequality. Mongolia still has a lot of room for improvement. For example, we do not have many women at decision making levels. Also, domestic violence is a huge issue for women and many women are still dependent economically. In addition, unemployment is much higher among men and alcoholism is also an issue for them. I believe that gender equality is not only women's issue but also men's.
Wow! All countries should copy from Mongolia! Keep it up!
Surprised and happy to hear this. We support economic independence for women because this gives women the hope of being able to live the life they want.
