Bio
"A feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality and full humanity of women and men."
-Gloria Steinem
Born and raised in the small island of St. Lucia, I was brought up by a strong trade unionist mother who toiled for the rights of others while putting herself on the back burner. Fortunately, I was able to receive a scholarship to study at the University of Puerto Rico and continued my graduate studies in International Studies in the US. Personally, seeing the disadvantages of income inequality in both men and women in my own country prompted my interest in this field. While the Caribbean has made strides in women's economic empowerment, I believe that the minuteness of our region has often left us to be overlooked by international organizations in comparison to other regions, even though there are about 39.17 million people living in this area. I hope that my small contributions can in some way allow a light to shine on the vast problems faced by women to achieve economic empowerment in the Caribbean.
