Women Excelling in the Economy
Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of NAMA Women Advancement Establishment, NAMA Women Advancement Establishment (NAMA) is holding the first edition of the biennial Women Economic Empowerment Global Summit (WEEGS) on December 4 and 5, 2017 at the Expo Centre Sharjah.
Our Joint Effort
The 2030 Agenda for sustainable development adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015 reinforced the inextricable link between gender equality, human rights, economic growth and environmental sustainability. Gender equality and women’s empowerment is a priority throughout the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Innovative multi-stakeholder partnerships and transformative action are necessary for achieving the SDGs. UN Women has developed a series of high-impact flagship programmes to deepen its efforts and achieve transformative results.
In line with the UAE’s vision and support of women empowerment, both locally and globally, NAMA Women Advancement Establishment announced its support to the flagship programme “Entrepreneurship and gender-responsive procurement” during the UN General Assembly in 2016. NAMA also announced that it will be hosting in partnership with UN Women, the Women Economic Empowerment Global Summit in Sharjah in 2017.
Additionally, the summit will initiate discussions with international decision-makers on the development of the the flagship programme on entrepreneurship and gender-responsive procurement, help secure the interest of women entrepreneurs and business owners, as well as present strategies, opportunities, and case studies to empower women in non-traditional sectors (including – but not limited to – procurement,finance, city planning) that will encourage organisations’ commitment for action.
The Summit will be held every two years, and will focus on women’s achievements in various economic sectors, give women access to the market and emerging economic sectors, as well as provide a platform to share best practices and commitment to action to create and enabling economy for women.
Join high-profile officials and international experts on women’s rights and empowerment, gender equality advocates, governmental, and private sector representatives, academics, thought leaders and successful women entrepreneurs, who can influence the global decision-making process and policy programmes, and shape global policies to advance women in the economy.
