On 25 January 2016, UN Women and PwC co-organized a luncheon on “Empower Women: An invitation to join forces for women's economic empowerment” for 115 women in business, academia, government as well as students. The event, hosted at the Westin Bund Hotel in Shanghai, aimed to stimulate discussions on women’s economic empowerment and initiate engagement on the Empower Women platform.

Hemant Ramachandra, PwC, kicked off the event by emphasizing the importance of technologies in today’s rapid development and some of PwC actions to achieving gender equality and women's empowerment under the 2030 agendaJulia Broussard, UN Women China Manager, laid out the picture of women's economic empowerment globally as well as in China. Shawni Chen, PwC Shanghai Manager, emphasized collaboration and partnerships as a means to promote the gender equality and women’s empowerment. Anna Falth, Empower Women Manager, talked specifically about Empower Women and invited participants to join this movement of women's economic empowerment. Anna invited Zhun (Cecilia) Zhuang, 2015-2016 Global Champion from Chengdu, to talk about her experience of the Champion programme, as well as one of Empower Women's blogger, Chunhong Chen from Shanghai, who talked about her entrepreneurial story within iLearn.

We continued the dialogue on women's economic empowerment with women executives and leaders both in Shanghai and Beijing. We are excited about the outcomes of these discussions and new members and partners across China.
