Stereotypes in the African context are enforced by notions of culture preservation and seen as the way things are supposed to be. It will take active effort to separate gender roles and practices influenced by patriachy from the values most Africans uphold on the grounds of cultural significance.

The stereotypes among men are numerous to mention. The men still feels the women should not work and as such their only function is give birth, cook, feed the family and nurture the home. They keep believing that women should not work and their wives end up believing such stories from them which makes them prone to domestic violence. There should be a balance from the women between taking care of the home and career, but the men dont want to hear that a woman must pursue her career. There need to be mass sensitization of the subject Gender Equality for all to learn what it truly entails.
