Women will get equal pay in 118 years

According to World Economic Forum, progress to close gender gap around the world has all but stopped since 2008 economic crash and it will take more than 100 years before women can expect equal pay with men.The report also claims that what women are paid now on average is equivalent of what men were paid in 2006.Read more on http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/nov/18/women-will-get-equal-pay-in-118-years-wef-gender-parity My concern is, is this issue of equal pay this hard to come by and are women to wait for all those years to be dispensed of their human rights?

I do believe that we are doing a lot fo things to make this gap smaller every day, I think although a lot of men and women have been working on this since years ago, we are now more aware of the impacts that closing the gap could bring to the societies, although that may not seem  a lot, we need to keep pushing until the goal is achieve, and probably we will need to go further into topics like politics and religion, to gain more power and people to believe in equity.

A lot of examples has been realized recently such as the case with Jennifer Lawrence, let's keep pushing on that direction.

Thank you all for your responses. There's a lot of work to be done here and I believe with movements as Empower Women,HeforShe and others, we can beat this and achieve equal pay sooner than expected. However, there's more to be done interms of digging deep into the root causes of gender disparity and also we as individuals have roles to play, for instance we can mobilize high school and university students to show support, hold peaceful demonstrations to the streets to push for equal pay, create online campaigns that would trend on twitter and also encourage our governments to officially proclaim equal pay day. There's a lot we can do to see this vision of equal pay embraced.

in my opinion we should first know what we are good in to know which job suitable for u...and in this case we need to believe in gender equalty and stop saying "i can't apply in this job it's for men"

  • In my attempt to pry the causes of women's low participation in politics, this issues of unequal pay keeps coming up. As long as we continue to wait, the other by-products of unequal pay will thrive.

I think with this global movement of Gender Equality and Women Economic Empowerment, and the implementation of Women Economic Principles in organisations, Equal Pay can be achieved much quicker than the 118 years predicted. I am optimistic that our efforts will not be in vain..

We cannot definitely wait that long! With our hands together, we can push all employers to take action towards equal pay. If it is working in countries like Sweden, then the same model can be used to force change in other countries too.
